Herculaneum's Heat by ~FatalArcane:iconFatalArcane:

Rain down on me as ash fills my lungs
My home, my heart, my love is gone
Pain unexpressed by stricken tongues
As I watch and wait; all withdrawn

I followed him to the place I stand
Though above the sky prepares eruption
I begged but he ignored my demand
His heart following his corruption

We knew that we had to quickly leave
As the gods prepared for their wrath
The air blackened as my lungs heave
Belongings gathered for our new path

A life that we will never meet
Herculaneum will be our grave
While the ominous coming heat
Takes those returned and deprave

A moment more I have of life
I will die beside the one I love
His depravity haunts me like a knife
Frozen in this rock from above

Another poem for this week's them at :iconrawem0tion:
The theme is 'molten rock' so naturally it reminded me of Mt Vesuvius! Yup I'm a Latin student!
I picked Herculaneum for alliteration's sake in the title; of course the most popular city is Pompeii.
Correct me if my history is off but I do believe most of the people who were present when the volcano erupted were there for their belongings. They were petrified in the lava(or whatever the correct term is) at the moment of death and made an imprint of their bodies. (hence 'frozen in this rock' )
